It's getting hard to add much of value when writing about AC, given how much has been said. It's a bit strange, because the place is constantly changing at one level, but at another level nothing ever really seems to change. You know what I mean? The place is still full of bars, large and small, packed with LBFMs. Some days the bars are full, some days they seem empty. Most of the girls are fuglies, but there are always do-ables (but not in every bar).

I've had the good fortune to be running about town with a couple of board members (more on them in a later installment) and a couple of other guys from more PI-centric boards. It's made the mongering more fun.

Among the never-changing aspects of AC is the shitty AC dining options. Even when I adopt the "food is just fuel" mantra, it can be hard to choke down this shit. How can places make tasteless Panang Curry? And when was the last time you were served what had to be Tang when you order orange juice? My supply of Powerbars is saving me. It's frightening when KFC is looming as an option (I haven't eaten KFC in over 30 years).

Here are a few random reactions after four full days and nights in AC:

I'm shocked at how empty many of the Perimeter bars are, both of customers and girls. Even hitting the places early in the afternoon, some bars have four girls on stage, one or two sitting around, and even fewer customers. Bar owners just shrug when we ask where the girls are. How do these places stay in business?

It's been noted repeatedly, but the Korean men have overtaken AC. Some bars seem to be "Korean bars" in which they make up nearly the entire clientele, while many others are more like 65% Korean/35% other. The girls seem to have strong opinions about the Korean customers. Some like them because they toss money around--literally and figuratively--and because they will on occasion bar fine half a dozen girls and take them out bar hoping and for food. There are bars that get almost completely emptied of girls within a couple hours of opening because a group of Korean men will swoop in and bar fine the lot of them. But other girls rant and rave about the Korean men, saying they are treated rudely by them. And then there are the snide comments by the girls about their sexual prowess. I can make no evaluation of their complaints; I'm just reporting what I hear...repeatedly.

I'm staying at the Pacific Breeze Hotel. It's hard to beat the location, but as many have noted, the hotel really needs some updating. Routine maintenance seems to be lacking, and the rooms are starting to look pretty worn and tattered. Hot water for showers cannot be counted on, and the internet service is unreliable (largely true for all of AC) and SLOW! The pool needs to be redone completely--whose idea was it to embed razor sharp stones into the pool seating and steps? I've seen at least a dozen people emerge from the pool with bloodied feet, shins and hands!

Aside from the fucking, the one highlight of the trip thus far was a trip to Halla Spa in Koreatown for a really excellent massage. Aside from the fact that one of our esteemed board members (try to guess who when I mention their names in another update) had a homosexual panic over the possibility of being assigned a male masseuse, it was a great experience. The 90 minute massage costs about 700 pesos, and the facilities are quite nice.

It's AC, so most of the time is spent (1) making plans with colleagues to go in search of fuckable women, (2) searching for fuckable women, (3) drinking while searching for fuckable women, and (4) fucking said fuckable women. In talking about the women, I'm slipping out of order, and will post the info in separate posts.

Last night's victim was Rissa. Her name may be Marissa. Or it may be something entirely unlike Rissa or Marissa. It was a late night, we'd hit many bars, and I was reasonably toasted (for me) and tired.

Day two, or full day #1, was spent doing errands (getting food and drink into the room, phone chip, etc.) and trying to recover from the trip. My biggest problem with the Asia trips is the jet lag and travel distance issue. I am often wiped out for 3-4 days when coming in, and have yet to find a system that prevents this.

So I lounged by the pool through much of the afternoon, fighting the desire to doze off. In the evening a wandered out onto Fields, and was underwhelmed by the scene. Several trends seemed to have worsened since my visit in 2011.

Trend 1: Bar fines seem to be up another 100-200 pesos everywhere. Several of the bars have upped their EWRs twice in 12 months.

Trend 2: "Party Animal" instead of EWR. WTF? The bar makes you buy a bottle of liquor that no one in their right mind would drink, in place of the old EWR or "ten lady drinks" system. The Champagne Group bars are all doing this. The funny part is the bars act all pissy if you walk out with your bottle. They want to re-sell it. My response? Fuck 'em! I took the bottles and gave them to the hotel doorboys.

Trend 3: Empty bars. Aside from the weekend nights, most bars seemed pretty empty. Even those with large dance groups were empty. At least a half dozen times I walked into bars during peak hours to find myself (or me and my comrades) the only person in the place.

Trend 4: Double Lady Drinks. These have been around a while, but most bars are now selling them, and in most bars it's the default request from girls. Now, it's one thing to sell a good mixed drink at a higher price than a coke, but to charge 250-300 pesos for a SML is thievery. So I make a point of only buying "regular lady drinks" while in the bars. If I later bar fine a girl and take her bar hopping, she is then free to order all the SMLs she wants. But what is absurd is I've asked girls who are nursing an SML if they like it, and they say "no." Many take a sip or two and eventually toss the drink.

Despite being underwhelmed by the scene on Fields, I found a target in Gecko's (CH Link), which had a generally weak lineup. She was pretty energetic in the bar, but less so in the room, and would not allow a single picture. Damn! Is this another emerging trend? Her name was Ella, and she was just OK, performance-wise. Another random observation/analysis:

I hate the big show bars. Places like Dollhouse (CH Link), Atlantis (CH Link), and similar places don't do it for me. Even when the dancing is not completely lame (it usually is), it's not very interesting, and it distracts from my ability to target the girl of the evening.

In the past I liked the Perimeter bars partly because of their slightly higher sleaze factor. That seems to be gone for the most part. Sleaze was hard to find anywhere (IAS wasn't in town). Other than the occasional briefly bared titties, the bars felt more like a Hooters than a hooker bar. Perimeter bars used to offer slightly lower prices with substantially higher sleaze. Now the only differences are price and number of girls, and the talent levels in the Perimeter bars was thinner than I recall it being in the past. There's often a gem or tow in each bar, but there were a few that seemed to have banned cute girls.

This time I found the goods better in the Fields bars, despite my general preference for smaller bars. I hate to say it, but Blue Nile (CH Link) had a bunch of cuties, as did Dragon's Den (CH Link), Forbidden City (CH Link), Brown Sugar (CH Link), and Champagne (CH Link). I gave the Perimeter bars a look several times, but found nothing worth a bar fine. There were some OK girls at Det 5 (CH Link) and Candy Bar (CH Link), but nothing to write home about.

The "cleansing" of AC is really a disappointment. Let's face it: AC has little going for it other than bars filled with girls, and when the bars get as sanitized as they are now, they are pretty uninteresting. In the past you might find yourself hanging out in a bar just to see what might happen, because almost anything might happen. Now, the odds of anything really interesting happening seems pretty minute. So you go to a bar to have a beer, look at and possibly interview a girl or two, and get out as quickly as possibly because the places are deadly dull.

In the past 12 months I've been to Thailand twice and AC once. In previous years I escaped to AC for some in-bar sleaze. This year I found much more sleaze and even basic nudity in the BKK and Pattaya bars than in AC.

But what AC has that beats LOS and many other places is the girls themselves. In my opinion, Thai girls are much prettier than their filipina sisters, but the filipinas are so much more fun back in the room. They are not necessarily more skilled, but they are more service-oriented. They seem to want to make you happy. They are generally fun-loving, sweet, and compliant, and those are all good traits for a prostitute!

I decided to try something different for my final day. Earlier in the trip I'd met some fun girls at ShowTime bar (CH Link), and decided to take two back for some pool time and a little playtime in the room before I headed to the airport.

We always had a joint tab in the bars, and we just took turns paying. No one worried about the money. And no one in the group took themselves too seriously...lots of jokes at one another's expense with no hurt feelings.

So, a good trip. I find AC maddening. It's such a dump, and the bars are, with a very few exception, not much fun to hang out in. The food still sucks in a major way. But then you meet a sweet young thing who rocks you all night long, and you forget about all the AC bullshit.

As for the Korean problem, Americans created it by buying KIAs and SAMSUNGs. It used to be centered in CEBU, but now has invaded the entire country. Stop buying crap from Korea and make it go away.

I have found the food at SM Clark to be pretty high quality, but most of us get our carbs from San Miguel while on the ground. Kenny Rodgers roasters beats the hell out of KFC.

I have no food recommendations to offer, I'm afraid. The best food is probably found at SM Clark, as Hot4ass2 suggests. The usual Fields haunts, like Kokomo's, Phillies, and Margarita Station, such big time in my estimation, as does Tequila Reef, which has the worst Mexican food I've ever tried but failed to eat.

Would I have found Jeni if she had not said hi at the pool? Odds are against it. So many bars, you know. I got lucky a few times, with girls that picked me. I also ducked a few that tried to pick me, but those were the usual situations in which the girl approaches you in the bar and asks for a drink before even saying hello.

I was intentionally looking for cute girls with very nice bodies. Even in AC there's no reason to chase fuglies with rice bellies. There are pretty girls with really nice bodies to be found, but you have to be patient and stay focused.

The best food that I have found in AC is at the Clarkton Hotel. The breakfast and dinner buffets are excellent, as is the menu. It is a ways from Fields, but they have a free shuttle van available to anyone going there after 6PM. The jeepney also runs right by the front of the hotel. I usually stay there and use the shuttle and jeepneys all the time.
