The good news is that now there is a stand-alone HSBC ATM adjacent to the Banco do Brasil branch (HSBC does not charge its customers a foreign currency conversion fee and the rate is pretty good for a bank). After getting $$$, I bought a phone card for my Vivo phone that I bought on another trip (you can buy the Vivo phone cards at the Lotterias kiosk next to Banco do Brasil on the 3rd Floor). The beauty of the Vivo cell phone is that it comes up as a blocked number in the USA, so no need for Vonage for me (although I did call a friend to confirm the number was blocked). One note about money matters, Help is offering an exchange rate of 3.0 and the current rate is something like 2.685, quite an enticement, however, I personally don't do my shopping at Help, and furthermore, nothing sounds worse than a pocket full of more cash than most Brazilians make in a month while walking around "rob a tourist central" after 11 PM.

After an uneventful cab ride from the airport, I arrived at Brazil Specialist's (hereinafter "BS") apartment. There were two other guys staying there (also board members). They had been having fun there which was good to hear. I usually stay at the Arpodoar Inn, however, this trip I wanted to check out Karla’s Models with help from BS.
