I was able to book a flight using AA awards points but I had to burn 75000 point from the west coast. AA would not let me get away with the normal 35000 point award ticket from Miami. Flying out at about 9PM Saturday July 2nd and arriving in Medellin at 12 Noon Sunday July 3rd.
Getting There - Taxi
I arranged a taxi (Juan) from the Torre Poblado Apts to meet me at the airport. I usually do that at least the first time arriving in a new city until I know the lay of the land. It is a little more expensive at 45000 pesos, I was later able to arrange three more trips to and from the airport at 35000 each (Juan (315) 429-4510). The taxi ride from the airport is about 45 minutes and since Monday July 4th is a holiday in Colombia there was lots of outgoing traffic going to the countryside. Along the road there is lots of roadside restaurants and artisan shops. According to Juan the restaurants are some of the best for foods typical of Antioquia. The trip over the mountain and into the valley is breathtaking. Juan stopping briefly at a vista point so I could take a couple of photos.
Money
I always take about 500USD as backup but withdraw funds from the ATM’s (Cajero) for daily use. I was able to withdraw up to about 1.100.000 per day (about 500USD). My bank (a Credit Union) gave me the full published exchange rate which was hovering around 2330 per dollar and then charged a 1% transaction fee which works out to about 4.29USD per 1.000.000 COP. The net result is about 2310-2315 per dollar. If you work the money exchange houses you may be able to get it up to about 2320 per dollar but that will require some searching.
I never needed to use my backup cash since the Cajero’s where very reliable. BTW I was using ‘Banco de Bogota’.
Beware using credit cards since most of them have added a very healthy transaction charge plus their rate of exchange is usually much worse then you will get from the Cajero’s

I checked into the , Rooms at 120,000 pesos ($52.00 USD). Plus IVA and hotel security. I requested an air conditioned room and got a two floor suite with a spiral staircase up to the bedroom and full bath. I did not particularly like the staircase up but the girls seemed to be happy with the room so I resolved to enjoy them in it.

Parque Lleras
is a 2-3 block short walk up the hill. Thursday through Saturday it is packed with artisans, galleries, clothes stores, restaurants, bars and many, many fine paisas. It is treat to just walk around our take a seat and watch the foot traffic. On Friday night I saw several ninas that could have popped right of the cover of some International model magazine. I later discover that if you walk up the hill past the park there is a whole neighborhood of great little shops, etc. Get yourself a nina and take a stroll around the place, if she likes walking she will love the place.
July 3
After I got situated I hooked up with BKK for lunch. we walked up the hill to parquet Lleras whice and investigated the many restaurants and bars. Summary
It look to me like the secret of Medellin is out, I saw gringos everywhere Hotels, restaurants, clubs, malls, etc… This is a great place to look for a real girlfriend or wife, the girl a beautiful and very friendly. Practice your Spanish it will be necessary here to have the full experience. The people of Medellin have a distinct accent that was more difficult for me to follow and conversely they had some trouble with my Costenian Spanish but we where OK with a little extra work.
I believe that you will fair best if you do as the Colombianos do. i.e. drink, eat, dance, speak, party like they do. Enjoy the culture that exists in this wonderful city, let not try to bring America to them.

The massage parlors are a sure bet and you may be able to arrange a takeout from one of these as well. SG’s and Chica Bars had to much of a Mexican border town flavor for me, but there are lots there. One of my cab drivers told me that the Chica Club girls could also be taken out for a multa but I did not have a chance to try.
The shows seems like a good place to see a large variety of chicas and make your pick. I will definitely check this out next time through. During this luck I had great luck with outcall girls through the Taxi drivers but I am sure this will be hit and miss.
