Ahhhhh
To start off I would call my trip an amateur’s first success, with a few speed bumps. The first of them was my visa application. This took four trips to accomplish at the Brazilian Consulate in Houston. Thank you members for your info in advance. One thing to add that was not even on their web site in advance is the 100usd must be in the form of a postal money order. That was trip one. Trip two with money order in hand I get there early and the guy working the window, who I had been warned about by my co-workers from the airport, wanted to only give me a 90 day single entry visa. I became very stern asking for his supervisor who was out sick. So he said at least. Trip four I finally see his boss who after a couple minutes of explaining that I work for a major airline and would like to be able to vacation often in his beautiful country, yes I know major ass kissing, he agreed to a 5-year visa. One week later trip four and I get my passport back with just two weeks until my trip.
Next came an absolute wonderful flight. Business first on Continental is as good as I have been telling passengers daily at work. Now I can tell them I have experienced it myself. We left and arrived right on time. My travel buddy had been to Brazil before so right thru he goes, I only waited about 3 minutes to have my picture and finger print taken and away I go. I had only a carry on bag so I was out the door in seconds from there. We set up in advance for a driver to be arranged and he was there waiting for us. The drive was an eye opener; project slums are the same all over the world. Thirty minutes later we arrive at BlameItOnRio and Bobby is just great. The second he finds out that this is a trip for my birthday out comes the booze to set me right. He has us in a nice clean two bedroom about 7 blocks away with a nice view of the beach. It was at the corner of Atlantica and Constante Ramos. So not very far from Meia Pataca, but far enough away to be trouble that I will get to later.
We get settled into the apartment and decide to head down to Meia Pataca for a little acclimation to the program. We did this knowing we would not be there that long for we had decided on a trip to 4x4. I can definitely say I have found where Heaven is on earth. We teased with many of the girls pretending not to know they were all WORKING. One went as far to try and explain that if you go to a candy store you have to buy the candy before you eat it. I laughed and said hell then this must be a candy factory. I will also add that it was great that all them guys there were funny and just wanted to bullshit with anyone from everywhere. Felt like a fraternity house.
Day one first trip to a Termas and 4x4 could not have been any better for us. Being early we planned on taking advantage of the discount and started hunting for just the right combination for my partner and me. He picks a thick one and I just had to start off with a little spinner. I am way too excited to even remember names and did not get to sneak in my camera. We had a suite for an hour and used every minute of it. These girls were very fun and I have to say treated us great. One even pulled out the biggest rubber dong I have ever seen and slapped my buddy on the ass with it to make him laugh. Up to this point I am rating every thing a 10, little did I know that the best was yet to come. Next we are back relaxing in the seats and every girl in the house is coming over to us to check out my buddy. He cannot believe that they almost lined up to reach under his robe. Then I spot this beautiful blonde, from all the posts I can only imagine that Hemp imported this one for me even though I have not met him, and I decide with her help that I have to have another session. This was the best decision I made besides the one to take this trip. I was not in the cabin 10 minutes when she bbbjtc until my left nut thought she was going to be sucked out! I was very content to lie back and relax and she starts singing happy b-day to me in Portuguese, my buddy had told her. Damn I wish I knew her name! She then decides I have rested enough, the vitamin c, kicked in and it was off to the races. I am hitting it and she grabs the lube and gives me the tightest ass I have ever seen. WOW!
So one trip to 4x4 and I think my final tab was around 400r so I was very pleased. We then took a taxi back to Copa and found out that the taxi the centro ripped us off because the night rate was the same as day, yall can correct me if I am mistaken. Oh well it still was not much.
We head to a sidewalk diner for some awesome chicken and then to the apt for a little rest seeing that the jet lag is starting to hit. My eyes pop open about 11:15 like I have been sleeping for 12 hours and start making noise that I want to go to HELP!!! So my buddy finally wakes up and we get there with about 5 min to go before the cost goes up. Not that the 10r would break me but hey, it is still 10r. This is where I went butt ass wild. I felt like I was worth about 19.95 a pound the way these girls looked at me. Yes I messed up by yall’s standards and wore clothes that screamed money. I did follow the rule and was not going to do two things. 1) Settle for anything but what I wanted and 2) I was unwilling to spend more than 100r for it. At about 2am I finally spot a great looking blonde and start the process of lying my ass off that I am low on cash. She knows I am lying but oh well it is all part of the game. I finally talk her into 2 hours for the 100r with a promise of a good tip if I am made very happy. This turned out to be my worst choice of the trip. The sex was just that. No pics allowed, I would learn to negotiate better next time. She asked to leave after just one pop so I gave her 100r and she said where is my tip! I walked into my room and polled 20r out of my funds and gave it to her and told her that had she been better to me it would have been more. Then she tried to give kisses and such and I just opened the door and let her out.
Day 2
We get started with a great omelet at Meia Pataca with their horrible coffee! We spent the day hanging out and walking the beaches. I felt very relaxed and almost like I do on Galveston beach here, this is setting me up for trouble to come.
Night comes and it is decided we will go to HELP again seeing we leave the next day. We decided to go broke. We did not exchange any money with the purpose of getting nothing we had to pay for. We head out to the floor and are having a blast dancing. When I start messing with a local that is not dressed like programa. I get her to take off her sweatshirt and she starts dancing with her hair swinging very very wild. I am just like a cat watching a fish tank. She tells me she has a 20-hour bus ride in the morning to go home that she is visiting her cousin. I danced with her for 2 hours before she says good-bye and I then see that she some kind of handicap in her legs. Still one great experience to meet someone that just makes you smile. Then I run smack into one that was great but be warned if you see this one be careful for I think I was set up. She agrees to come back for just what was in my pocket, about 70r. My buddy was already heading back. I am feeling good and decide to walk. We are strolling along trying to talk and make each other understand what we are saying when two teens come out of the shadows literally close enough that I can see my apt window and start to grab me saying they want my money. This is where all involved made a bad decision. They decided to rob me, and I decided I was not giving them a damn thing. I am 260 lbs and have 26 years experience in Japanese Jujutsu. I have just enough of a temper that when one of them decided to slap me I decided it was time to access that neither had a weapon and it was time for the pain. This is when I should have realized she might have set this up because she did not try yelling or anything. The smaller one grabbed for my pocket and slapped me in the face. I had already stepped aside making I had him between his buddy and me. At this moment I tossed my key up with a piece of paper I carried with my address on it. As the kid reached for it I back handed him hard enough that I tore both his lips and might have cracked his nose. The girl is still not screaming. Then comes his buddy who was a little bigger, but a lot dumber for he did not even try to hit me and just reached for my pocket. This pocket I know is empty so as he put his hand in I hold it there and press his elbow down to the ground. Promptly I release his hand and stomp on it hearing it snap. Guess what she is still just watching. The two boys grab each other and start running so I grab her and head the last steps in a hurry to the apt just incase they are getting older friends that might have weapons.
We get inside and then she starts talking to my buddy’s girl and she tells me in English that she may have known them. At this point I am starting to think with my little head and she is being all cuddly so I let her stay. I also decided I was going to get what I wanted from her but she was getting a pay cut. I did have a great session with her. She did not rush at all and did everything I wanted even with out me asking. Including pictures that I will be posting. She was a little older than I was looking for but was awesome in the sack. Bbbjtc, lots of fucking in any position, anal was a little tough, but she tried hard, she even licked the little dark hole. Then she was a bit unhappy acting when I told her that I thought she set me up with the two kids and gave her 60r and told her to leave and in front of her gave the doorman 10r telling him she was not allowed back. I will look forward to what yall have to say about this. The next day after lunch we went for drinks with Bobby and he said I did a good thing but it would have been ok if I hurt them more, but I should take a cab next time. I had to laugh, but know now that I will always stay with my travel buddies.
Well this will end what I call a great first official MONGERING trip for me. Hope you enjoy it and if a person is new to travel I hope they learn from my experience. I do not look like a victim but that does not stop every one.

if you think you can get a quality girl from help for those prices you are either naive or stupid or both. girls that cheap at help are a red flag for trouble or disease. 260 lb or not you are lucky to be around. the bobby i know would have insisted you not walk to an apt that far at night. once, he recommended i take a taxi 1 block to one of his apt's. beef up your budget or head to mexico [it is south from galveston]. hope you read more on this board before your next trip.
By Callmesir on Monday, August 15, 2005 - 10:34 pm: Edit
Yes, Bobby did advise not to walk again, and I admit I made a bad decision. Nothing was decided on a budget basis as far as not having one. The money part is all a game. Now as far as mexico is concerned, yes it is south. Right now it is also very dangerous in the border towns. There are major internal drug wars happening daily with the local federales being taken by the gangs. I have been blessed to have been able to travel all over the world working for a major air carrier and been places that I felt a lot more in danger. Just this time I made a bad decision and did not write to brag but to inform.

It's funny - for once we see a newbie trying to pay below the appropriate rate. It's sort of refreshing to hear a new Rio monger not pay the first rate the garota gives him.

CMS..."My travel buddy had been to Brazil before so right thru he goes, I only waited about 3 minutes to have my picture and finger print taken and away I go."
I have never had this sone. Is this common now?
CMS..." We get started with a great omelet at Meia Pataca with their horrible coffee!"
Well, you have probably figured out that yo are lucky to still be alive. Many a tourist has had a gun pulled on him, followed by a bullet in the ol' brainpan. If you ever go back, you might be marked, so be careful.
I agree with you there CMS, Brazilian coffee sucks big time!

Every time I've gone to Brasil on American, at that terminal I've been photographed and fingerprinted. March 2004, March 2005 and May 2005. Every time I've gone on United, I've never been photo'ed or fingerprinted, including the three times after they first started in early 2004. United flights were July 2003, November 2003, April 2004, July 2004 and November 2004. I doubt if the rules would be different in one terminal from another, but being Brasil, who knows.
Also, for those of you who have never used the Varig/United terminal, it is much newer and much, much nicer than the old terminal where the other airlines are. Just picking up baggage, at the old terminal it takes forever while the Varig/United terminal is very fast. At least in my experiences, it has been.
By the way, Rua Constante Ramos isn't 7 blocks from Bobby's office, it's only three or four.

Hmmm, I fly American, and I have NEVER been fingerprinted nor have had my pic taken. Weird.

I have flown AA and TAM on different trips - never once photo'ed/printed.

I only fly AA and haven't been printed and photo'ed in over a year and a half, 5 trips.

I would imagine that the photo in the Continental term is in retaliation to the fact that the two facilities in the US that we use, EWR and IAH, are the newest state of the art in the US but when "visitors" arrive they are treated like crap. Many miss their connecting flights daily due to the long lines. I know most of the inspectors and constantly complain to them because their mess hurts my companies business. Well just my 2 cents worth. Question: Have any of you experienced the "Business First" service on Continental compared to the other carriers? Would love to hear the comments.
By Broman on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 - 11:05 am: Edit
I flew United this month and was photographed and fingerprinted. I assume as foreign nationals are now being treated this way entering the U.S. (soon everywhere if not everywhere already) that all U.S. people will have to do this, too. The visa charge is the same retaliatory deal. While it's a pain, I cannot criticize the Brazillian government from doing it. We did it to them, first.

I just flew CO to SP and was neither fingerprinted nor photoed.

Oct 04 on AA, no photo or ink on the finger for me.

The fingerprinting/photo issue is random. They move the equipment from place to place. I've flown into Rio a dozen times over the past three years, always into the United/Varig terminal, and have been fingerprinted/photoed 3 times. In São Paulo I've was batting closer to .500 until I got my Brasilian temporary resident ID and got to go through the "Brasileiro" lines.
Welcome to the Club, CSM.

Glad you are ok...I just hope that I am not the guy they take it out on in a few months....They are not going to get even with you, but they will for sure get even with somebody. Not to say you did not have a right to protect yourself. It is really too bad, I have stopped going to Rio for this reason. My trips are mostly to SP. I know it is dangerous there as well, just seems like the set up is a bit safer. Walk out the door and taxi is three feet away at most places I visit late at night.

The Business First service on Continental is excellent, regardless of Co domestic service the International service is actually the best of all the carriers including Delta at this time. If you should ever have any problems fill out ht e customer comment card, I assure you that action will be taken to please. Glad you enjoyed Rio. (and kicked some ass too!)

I have found Delta business class to Brazil much more comfortable than Continental's. One of the main reasons is the Delta seats recline more and there is about five more inches from seat to seat. OTOH, Continental's seats are wider, so I suppose which seat is more comfortable depends on how you are built.
I also find Delta's flight crews on average more hospitable, but it remains to be seen whether their morale is going to hold up in light of the serious financial problems Delta is having.
As to the fingerprinting and photos, as one who has been back and forth to/from Brazil more times than I can count since they started the procedure, whether they actually fingerprint and photograph you on entry strikes me as fairly random although maybe tapering off a tad.

I flew into brasil this morning and got photoed and fingerprinted, the third time out of 30-40 flights it has happened. I flew american. There are at least 2 intake points and I have been photoed and fingerprinted at both of them.

A few points you might think about next time...you get what you pay for. I always try to get a decent deal, however, I have never been unsatisfied by level of service. Second, it is not the kid or two trying to rob you that makes Rio a dangerous place, it is their seven friends hiding around the corner. You also got targeted because the way you dressed said "rob me because I have money." You may feel as though you got away with one this time, however, odds are against you. If I was you, I'd be worried about my well being after I stiffed a gdp and injured her favela friends...especially since they know where you are staying...
By Frontbc on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 - 11:16 pm: Edit
Just curious. When they take fingerprints, is it like the California DMV where they electronically scan just one thumbprint or is it with an inkpad and they take all ten fingers?
By Laguy on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 01:11 am: Edit
Just an electronic scan of one finger.

Jeez Gr8ter, what happened to "I won't be able to get back for 4 or 5 months (tear in corner of eye)?"
If you flew in yesterday moning then you were not even gone for 4 or 5 weeks!
Lucky bastard!

I had some optional things to do in the states that I thought were more important than they actually were (only 25% of people were participating in them, and I have already done equivalent things), therefore, I opted to spend my four days in Rio vs. doing the optional stuff in the US. Starting Saturday I really won't be able to be back until at least November because everything else is mandatory
By Sandman on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 08:54 am: Edit
Gr8ter-now, you know the old saying; You can fool some of the people..........
I'll take side bets that you figure a way to get back down before Nov.. Let's see, Labor Day weekend coming up soon.....!
By Broman on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 - 11:10 am: Edit
Congratulations on the escape, Gr8ter. Good for you. Don't tell me...you're heading over to Luomo's to try out Julia now?
Guess I'm lucky. One trip to Rio, one set of photos/fingerprints (one finger of each hand). I think the rate will increase if they get more machines/manpower to do it, again, just for retaliation.

Callmesir......I couldn't help but laugh my ass off about your incident with the two teens. But on a serious note.....it has me re-evaluating how I'm going to carry myself the next time I'm in Rio.
Unlike you, I'm only 140 lbs....and despite many warnings, I felt real comfortable walking back to a Penthouse I had which was about 8 or 9 blocks away from HELP. I also dress nice (out of habit and normal routine) and probably looked like a real nice target!
Knock on wood.....I never encountered any incidents during my 3 week stay and visited HELP regularly. (one of my favorite places) But after hearing a few stories, including yours.....I may stick to cabs, despite how comfortable I feel.
Anyways....Great Report!

Sand and others, lets hope I am not right about not being able to get back down. i have lowered my personal required staying in rio time from two weeks to one week to now I am only here for four days. Pretty soon I might be flying down friday, getting here saturday and leaving sunday, lets hope it doesn't get to that point though or I will definitely have to admit to myself I have an addiction.
Things are not looking so good for wanting to stay in the us for long periods. Of the 50 people I am with in the US now every day from 8 in the morning till 10 at night, only 6 are women, of the women, only two would rate higher than a 5 and one of them is married! Additionally, it is a smaller town so there aren't as many night spots for meeting women, etc. Things are looking bleak but lets give it some more time. I can handle it for small periods because it is worth it in the long run, but I will be trying my best to get down here at every opportunity.

Gr8,
At his peak, Alderon was going down every two-three weeks, leaving the US on Thursday night and leaving Rio Sunday night. I think he did that 2-3 times, plus another 3-4 one/two week stays. That was in his first 9 months on the Rio scene.
By the way, he ended up marrying a famous GdP from Luomo, so it's a cautionary tale on many levels!

I fly Continental and sometimes I am fingerprinted, but other times not. Sometimes just the scan. I am always one of the first ten in line (usually first five, I can walk faster than most)
LaGuy, I think I will check out your opinion about Delta business, I am close to my freebie, which I always do in business. Pretty sure it costs the same on Delta as Continental and I can use the Continental miles (SkyTeam). I fly Continental because the schedule allows me to leave later and arrive back earlier which helps with work. Delta is pretty close schedule, though, and with the new flights will give me 8+ hours more in Rio and only cost 2.5 extra from the office.
Gr8ter you need to look into a 12 step program for Rio adiction, that was as good a rationalization as I have ever heard. But no worse the ones I make when I get on my every 4 week kicks (I am a leave US Thursday leave Rio Monday schedule on those trips). Damn this thread is making me miss Rio, I am having a good time in LOS, but IMO, it just ain't the same. Next trip is October 13 which is the evening of Yom Kipper for the other jews on the board. I figured a day a repentence should be followed by a long weekend of decedence.

I fly United and it seems like I always get fingerprinted and photographed coming into GIG. But at least it's biometric now. The ole ink pad sucked when they first started doing it and the mug shot with your name hand written on a piece of paper you hold under your chin was comical
By Back12draft on Thursday, August 18, 2005 - 09:53 am: Edit
I thought the fingerprinting thing was a Brazilian response to the new American identification process of Brazilians entering the US, so I've heard. But then again, what do I know I'm a Canadian we're no threat to anyone, we'll allow any ole terrorist in our country? Hell once here our government hands out free welfare, house, pretty much anything an immigrant needs for free. Specially since it's coming outta my taxes!
As for the robbing incident, I've taken years of Martial Arts as well and I always take a cab after dark, just common street smarts. And ya after a few pops I feel bulletproof as well but I'm always thinking "what if". I had a cab driver laugh at me once for the distance I was going, fuck him it was 5 blocks inwards from Atlantica and hey, he still took my fare.
I've only ever hooked up inside Help twice; both times they've been a disappointment. I always seem to better with girls on the patio that are either too cheap to go inside or don't like it, besides they get a little desperate ($$ wise) as the crowd thins out.
Good luck in the future dude! Ask our buddy Jag about messing with a local teenager.
