I recently just finished a stint from travelling, now I’m back firmly on Canadian soil, and it’s time to share some photos and a bit of info.

Based on the little amount of writing about Cuba I’m assuming many of you guys that are American don’t get to Cuba as the politics aren’t worth the effort to travel there. Regardless, I found this place totally contrasting to playing in Rio and elsewhere in South America.

Since tourism plays a major role in the country’s economy, tourists are held in higher regards than in Brazil. You still have the street hustlers trying to sell you cigars and chicas but they’re much less aggressive than in Rio and usually leave after a couple attempts. English is widely used by many Cuban’s, businesses and street vendors alike; which is a welcome change.

One thing I found surprising was that resident Cubans are fined by the police if caught openly approaching tourists regardless of the reason. If a tourist initiates conversation it’s more acceptable but the locals will still walk away from you if the police round the corner. It’s kind of like a cat and mouse game aimed at securing the safety and future of tourism. Overall if you don’t like always being on the defensive this place is a welcome change.
I walked in many areas of Old Havana, New Havana and places in between. Police patrol some of the poorest neighbourhoods and many locals still have fear of the police, obviously, the communist regime is still very feared amongst the locals unlike many Latin countries. Regardless, it was much like any other large city, digression is always needed but I found it much less prevalent here than other country.

The Cops
I was in a bar one night and met two lads from Scotland. We decided to have a few drinks and I was eyeing up the local talent when these two guys went to the washroom. Moments later I hear a commotion and see security and a few employees from the bar wrestling with these two guys I was sitting with. They wrestled them out the front door and then some of the staff turned and headed towards me. They asked if I was with those two guys, luckily, the girls at the table motioned to say “No” and with that, I explained we had just met and we weren’t together. The local working girls at the table went to see what happened and returned to explain. Apparently, these two lads went to the washroom to blow off a joint between them. Someone noticed and instantly ratted them out to the bar security. The girls informed me that in Cuba this was a huge mistake, the government has a zero tolerance stance on drugs, especially from tourists. They informed me these two guys would be turned over to the local police for arrest, I kinda figured it was all an over-blow story. After a few drinks, I decided on a girl and we headed out to grab a taxi to head back to my apartment. When we were getting a taxi out front, some locals asked if I was with the two guys that the police took away earlier. Further conversation revealed that the cops did attend and they arrested these two Scottish guys and took them off to jail; bail was apparently set at 1500 convertible pesos each. Talk about an expensive night out; I guess being a tourist in Cuba is a double-edged sword.

The Talent
This was my 3rd or 4th night out on the town in Havana; I had gotten a few tips on bars from some locals as well as a few guys I’d met. This one bar called Casa de Musica was a dive but had plenty of talent that came out of the woodwork later in the night. The quality of women in Cuba was similar to that of South America but they had a style of their own. They were hot but didn’t overly exaggerate their sexuality as the women in places like Rio. Given that they were, also in the tourism field, many were surprisingly well spoken in English. From 5’s to 6’s maybe a few 8’s or 9’s but nothing that would floor you, overall they still grabbed a single man’s attention.

After talking with a few local guys and finding that the average income of a none skilled worker brought in anything from $12-18 pesos a month and reading what little I could find on working girls in Cuba I figured I was ready to negotiate. Many of these girls saw a Gringo and began pricing at around $80 pesos; very quickly, they dropped their prices once you suggested they were overpriced. It only took about 5 minutes of bargaining to get them down to anywhere from $30 - $40 pesos for the night. Now seeing as working girls are not permitted into any hotels in Cuba one must have a casa de particular (Private Rental) or it’s a no go. Mind you, I had a couple girls offer their own apartment for the night, I got the feeling that it was nothing more than a commonly shared apartment where they could work. I envisioned me banging this girl in one room, while her family tried to sleep in the other. Or the worst-case scenario, being robbed in some beat-down old abandoned apartment, standing there with a hard-on and my pants down around my ankles and no wallet. Regardless, for $30 US daily I had a nice 2-bedroom apartment in an upscale neighbourhood, well worth the money and peace of mind. The quality of private rentals in Cuba is miles ahead of those we get in Rio, nicer and cheaper.

The girls were pretty much like any other working girl, they were eager and fun, they didn’t refuse anything and practised safe sex. You get that nice thick Latina ass, not as firm as a Brazilian ass but all the same, firm and fun to bang. Unlike in Brazil plastic surgery isn’t the staple of working girls so don’t expect many man-made tits. You get lucky and find the odd girl with great natural tits but not as common as you would elsewhere. Cuban girls are as dirty and nasty as you’ll find anywhere else, but then again, it’s all how you work them, right? The beaches in Havana are pretty much non-existent unless you like lying on rocks so you don’t get heavily tanned women like down south. All the nice beaches are further west towards the tourist areas. All in all the women in Cuba were plentiful and a good time. Would I return, sure, it’s only a 3 hour flight and I can do a weekend for under $500, including girls, so a 3 day weekend is a great little get away.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m know Jaguar with my writing skills and I’m not big on writing trip reports either but since I get the impression many of you US Hombres don’t have the convenience of travelling to Cuba I made an exception.

There are two types of currency in Cuba as of the last year or so. The government came out with the Convertible Cuban Peso, which is the type that tourists and businesses use. Resident Cubans use the old Cuban Peso amongst themselves. The difference is about (24-1) resident pesos to the convertible pesos, a huge difference. I actually have a pic of both,

The report is appreciated, but I don't agree on some points. Namely, english-speaking people. Without some decent Spanish speaking skills, it is difficult to take advantage of Cuba. Not only that, Cuban spanish is fast. Much different than Mexico or Colombian spanish. Like any other place, the good-looking cheaper putas won't speak English or very little.
Secondly, having been to Rio and Havana. I can say without a doubt, I will take the accommodations in Rio any day. Cheaper yes in Havana. I can get a super nice apartment(US channels, high-speed internet, etc.) in Rio though that simply wouldn't exist in Havana.
Thirdly, I don't welcome the police presence at all. It is a lot more than mere nuance meeting and talking to girls because of it.

Havana, Cuba is an unique mongering spot. Nightlife is certainly awesome, girls are cheap and some real gems are definitely there that have that raw passion. Make no mistake about it though, it takes some real work. Luck definitely is a part of it too.

To expand on roadglide's comment. Even if they do fine you, you simply appeal. There is no court in existence to hold that hearing. I'll repeat, no American who's ever appealed a fine for traveling to Cuba has EVER had to pay a dime.

Bottom line, go through Cancun/Costa Rica/Panama/Jamaica and they'll never know the difference.

I went to Cuba 8 times before I discovered Rio and I think Cincoleche’s analysis of the differences between the 2 is spot on. My trips were mostly weekends which were fine. However I had one 8 day trip that covered Havana, Cienfuegos and Vinales and it was hard work on the food front whereas I could spend months in Rio. I also disagree with the OP in that I found the Cuban touts (jineteros) much more prevalent and generally more of a PITA than in Rio. Jineteras OTOH were fine but the sex wasn't Rio garota standard. Jonesie seems to pick up very nice girls but as CL points out I'm not sure a first timer could expect to do as well.

Dancing in Lima was fun and it made all the difference in the nonpro circuit. I need to be able to bring my game up a bit for the rio trip later this year.

I assume you actually looked at what you posted after hitting the enter button, I find it hard to believe that you didn't see that you posted someone else's pics - especially after Thumper called you on it. Then waiting five days - that's a big guilty sign around your neck.

It may not be a big deal to you, but to some it is. It's happened before, it'll happen again. Just combined with your "why do guys like termas" Roblaw-like questions, you dug yourself a whole that guys were happy to throw you in.
