Wayward,
Yeah, you'd have to pay an editor...so if some guy was gonna hang and monitor every post...that might work...

It might work if you had a program that automatically blocked any "profanity"...imagine if RS would have had a specialized program that would have disallowed posts that contained the word "turd" alone...

George Carlin's classic comedy routine about the 7 banned words on radio illustrated this point ( circa 1969)...if you said certain words on the radio...you'd lose your gig as a disk jockey...I just heard a local sports announcer tonight, call Barry Bonds a "horse's ass" ( in reference to the Giants gettin' bounced tonight by the Mets)...20 years ago that announcer would've been bounced for using that language...there are many more artful ways to get the point across...This is only going to piss Bonds off more (okay, anger him...).

If we keep the level of discourse at a civil level, even an exagerated "Robert's Rules of Order" level.. no one will be offended enough to engage in a flame war...

Banning posters does not necessarily elevate the level of discourse...

I enjoy the judicious use of "profanity" myself...but to indulge in a constant spew of the aforementioned tends to alienate people...and has done so in all cultures, and all languages...for thousands of years...

It all starts with the language we choose to use...
