I would like to humbly make a few suggestions that I am sure would make a public board such as this one run a lot smoother and avoid the kind of flames/garbages that plague most boards after a while:

1) Assert your power as owner/webmaster: Your judgement is FINAL. You do not ever need to explain your rules AND the way you interpret them.

2) Do not hesitate to ban or terminate any poster that IN YOUR OPINION is a flame-baiter. The longer a flame-baiter is allowed to exist he will attract other flame-baiters and flames will escalate. Institute a two-strike or even one-strike and you're out, period.

3) I've been on many other public boards and my experience has been that usually just a very few "regulars" become flame-baiters over time. You can save yourself a lot of time and effort by making new posters WAIT (one month, two months... you decide) before receiving their priviledges to post. There are MANY advantages to this idea:

a) This will go a long way from preventing banned posters from re-applying under a new handle.
b) This will make posters value more their posting priviledges and not abusing it for their personal vendettas.
c) This will also force newbies to "Read first, Ask question later" and not clogging the board with questions already answered.
d) This will also discourage banned "obsessive" posters from coming back because they will become frustrated with the wait and will most likely go away. Not to mention time-away will allow these people to "cool down".

Like somebody already said, making it a paid site will only have the flame-baiters pay for their priviledge to vent their vendettas because that's exactly what they need, a medium to vent. They will no doubt pay for this priviledge.

I sincerely hope you take these suggestions seriously.
