I wasn't really talking about the holiness of our approach. But, more on the matter of practicality and value assessment.

I am pretty convinced those cops approach you for the primary purpose of stealing your money. BUT, if you don't cooperate with them, then there is always a chance that they will try to get you in the name of cracking down on prostitution and its customers. And who knows what evidence they might come up with.

Your approach is akin to standing up against the thief who is putting a gun on your head. True, the gun has a "very small chance" of being real. But, I wouldn't even try to find it out. It is a poker game. But, it is played at their place, with their rule, and their language.

$40, $260, or $400 is an annoyance, but it's just money. If it is always $50, like RickFeliz is prepared to do, then I will solve it that way. I look at it as a fine for not being careful enough to be stopped by the police.
