Good advice Porker for all situations where the charge is trumped up. Stay calm and DO NOT PAY!! However, prostitution IS illegal outside of the zones of toleration and that appears NOT to include the Revolucion tourist district. There is still, as you pointed out in your other post, a problem of proof. Never make any confesssions to the police - they have no way to prove that you engaged in an illegal act of prostitution. However, in Mexico you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent. So you should be prepared to be processed through the system if you go to the cop shop on a charge for which you are arguably guilty. I couldn't blame anyone for going for the mordida option under these circumstances.

It is frustrating that we haven't had someone among us who really understands the Mexican criminal justice system to advise us about our rights when we are arrested on a REAL charge - and exactly what the procedure would be - and whether this particular case, which could NEVER be made in a U.S. court, could be successfully prosecuted in Mexico under a ridiculously low standard of proof (as compared to the U.S.'s "guilty beyond a reasonable doubt" standard). El Chamuco - are you paying attention? If so, do you have any answers?

Bottom line is there appears to be a crackdown on open prostitution on Revolucion - some cops will bring you in for prosecution and others just use the law to line their pockets. Consider it high risk to walk down the street in the company of a puta between a club and a hotel. Doesn't mean you can't play on Rev - just that you ought to build in some caution - like having your own room where the chica can meet you.
