Daytimer - I am glad you are ok and thank you for posting your experience. In the last few weeks there have been several posts from people about being mugged especially walking to and from the border. Keep in mind I have heard (can't confirm) stories of guys being mugged in the alley, a area I walk several times on every visit. This kind of thing can happen to anyone. There were also some really god posts on security, places to hide money, ect... Some people might blow some of this info off as being paranoid to each his own. But I think the Idea of always keeping "punch out money" (enough money for a cab to get out of TJ in an emergancy) is a excellent idea. As well as securing money in difforent locations. If you find yourself in a situation where you spent your last Dollar cause you just had to go upstairs one last time (this happend to me 2 months ago). Here is what I think you should do... and I know I may get some flack for this but it's just my opinion... go to either in front of AB or CC when you see a guy grabbing a cab simply say "hey do you mind if I catch a ride with you I misbudgeted tonight and really don't want to walk back to the border...." I'd say most guys wouldn't care, the ONE time i did this I felt like a cheapskate but at least I was safe... ( I hope i run into that guy again I owe him a few cold ones) and last weekend when I gave 2 SDSU kids a ride after spending thier last dime in AB, I was glad they didn't have to walk through ratero central, actually I doubt if they even knew the way back... Stay safe, have fun, |
