Sure TJ is corrupt and littered with crime. Some of us have to compare TJ with their own home surroundings. And your right it sure ain't La Jolla. I am currently in New Jersey. I took a walk for about an hour and I felt down right uncomfortable walking through this area. This was atrributed to 1) the fact I didn't know where I was going (unfamiliar environment) 2) The inhabitants of the area were not like me (lower income class)3) There was the constant sound of a police siron and 4) It just plain looked like a bed for crime.

I have also found the same thing throughout MANY parts of the good old US of A.

Looking internationally Caracas Venusallia (sic) great place to stroll in the daytime but felt totally uncomfortable at night.

I just got back from from Phnom Pehn Cambodia. When ever I mention it in a conversation people always tell me how crazy I am for walking the street or going out after dark. Well I will tell you I tent to think I am a pretty good judge of my surroundings (street smarts)because I have traveled internationally and nationally to some very crime ridden places but, I felt much more comfortable in Phnom Phen then I do In TJ.

I walked all over Phnom Pehn. In TJ in six years I have never walked to or from the border at night and have only walked from Revolution to the Zona twice after dark. I do walk freely and comfortable around the Zona and the alley but am walking with my "street smarts " cap on. In that period I have never seen a mugging nor I have I been in this position. I do think there may have been several instance where I was close.

The point to all of this is we can't compare TJ to La Jolla and that there are much worse places in terms of crime and corruption both in our backyard and internationally.
