I tried to add this to the "corrupt cops" posts, but kept getting an error meassage. ( or maybe it's just me, thread challenged) Was on the sidewalk in front of AB Friday, 6PM or so. Met Texas Mike(sorry guy, I'm already bilingual, know my way around the Zona, and don't touch anything "extra" for about 3 years now- part of a belated promise to God for letting me live through a hurricane) and was just kinda hanging, waiting for my chica to start her night, so I could be first. Anyway, I see my street buddy, (he walks my chica to her car after her shift is over- or so he tells me as he works me for spare $$) and we're shooting the shit, catching up, and he tells me that he's just been released from jail, he had failed to report to sign some kind of paper for the court for the last time he got into trouble. (Anybody- does Mexico have probation, like in the US?) I was going to get something to eat, and invited him to meet me at the restaurant next to AB. He never showed, and about 20 min. later, I'm outside on the sidewalk, when a paddywagon goes by, and my buddy is in it! He yells to me, but the wagon sped up and kept going. 10 minutes later, the same wagon stops in front of AB, and the cops jump out to grab one of the vagrants across the street. My buddy is still in the wagon, and yells for me to come over. He starts pleading to give him $15.00 for his "fine". I'm pulling out a $20 to give him, when one of the cops comes over and asks me what I'm doing. I replied in Spanish " with all due respect officer, I know this man, I'm just trying to help him out. Now the cop make me put my hands on the side of the truck, and is ready to frisk me! The diver of the wagon then gets out and asks the first cop what I did. I politely explain to the second cop the situation, and ask him if it's possible to follow them to the station to pay my friend's "fine". The second cop says it's $40, and I can pay him directly ( I sorta saw that coming) Meanwhile the second cop, tells the first one to let me go,but as I'm walking away, I hear a voice in the back of the wagon telling me "give your friend the money". I quickly slipped my buddy a $20, and ignoring the bad stare of cop#1, scooted over to AB and ducked inside. The doormen from AB were amused by the whole thing when I told them what went down, I guess they see that kind of shit all the time. The point of my little tale I guess, is that you don't have to be intimidated by the cops, if you are polite,they should leave you alone. My poor buddy showed me his black and blue marks and scrapes from the kicks and handcuffs when I saw him later that night. I try to help him out now and then, he tells me he "looks out" for my chica, although I know that she pays him too whenever he does something for her. I tell him that he's probably harassed by the cops for the way that he lives, but I have a hard enough time trying to "save" my chica from making $200k plus a year(LOL), let alone save a street guy.A
