RF,

You have played with two powerful notions that are deeply embedded in all our brains; whores and madonnas. The post was well-written and thoughtful. Though the followup to the story is a tragic one, we should always be aware of it. There is no great future for the chicas in this business without extraordinary self-discipline while doing it and a clear exit strategy. Drug and alcohol abuse, violence, poverty and homelessness are all distinct possibilities. At least as likely to me, as returning to the hometown with money saved and a new chance at a normal life.

Prostitution is not just like any other business. There are inherent risks, apart from the health issues, that make it more dangerous to one's soul. Turning to drugs to kill the emotional pain or attaching yourself to a bad crew (novios or friends) is the likely path. While I wonder about a certain past favorita, I know that one of the reasons I hooked up with her in the first place, was she had her head screwed on straight. She had personal limits and firm boundaries with customers. She was unhappy being a prostitute, but realistic about why she was doing it. She could articulate specific goals for the future.

I know most big cities have groups to help prostitutes adjust to or leave the business, and to help with their social problems. Does TJ?

Thanks again,

Nomar
