Nomar, "...isn't stories "cuentos" in Spanish. I've never seen "estorias" before. Or perhaps "Historias" works..." You're correct. Thank you. You caught me in a "Madrigalism". I've found "Madrigal's Magic Key To Spanish" by Magarita Madrigal to be the best book I've run across to learn Spanish. Instead of memorizing words you learn the translation pattern between English/Spanish and can generate words. When I'm trying to communicate an idea with my amigas especiales, I've developed the habit of "generating" Spanish words. I then check with "las maestras de la Universidad de Adelitas" (the teachers at the University of Adelitas) to see if they understand what I'm saying. It looks like I took "stories", generated "estorias", asked las maestras, they heard "historias", understood me, told me it was "correcto" (correct), and I added estorias to my vocabulary. Interesting phenomenon. When I was learning Spanish out of a textbook, I could spell Spanish words correctly, but couldn't pronounce them. Now, it appears I'm learning conversational Spanish, can make myself understood, and am spelling the words wrong. Again, "gracias" (thank you). Regards, |
