This is the official minimum wage, but many people make less. I saw one report that estimated that 60% of all Mexican workers are paid under the table. I know that in the plants along the border with Texas, starting pay for an unskilled, female worker is 200 pesos per week, and I believe that is a 50 hour week. That is about 43 cents per hour, with no benefits, although I believe they get one week's vacation after a year. An article I read stated that the salary rises to the 300 - 500 peso per week range pretty rapidly if you are a good worker and make your quotas. I have also heard that in the really rural parts of Mexico, a hooker costs 40 - 50 pesos, but I can't confirm that.
