I was doing "once around the block" which is a journey that starts at Adelitas: Coming out of Adelitas I turn left, Coming out of Las Chavelas I turn left and cross the street to Tropicana "para nada" (for nothing) Coming out of Tropicana I cross the street veering toward the corner on the right where I hustle along the wall headed for the alley. At the alley I turn left. On my left is the lights of the Miami Bar. Inside I see a few people. It's dark. There might be a few winners lurking in the private places. At the bar on the right I get a Dos Equis and look around. It's very, very late. I only see one other gringo. He reminds me of an English Professor I once had so I greet him. He looks in my direction with his eyes rolling wildly around, his body sways first right, then back, then forward, then left and around again. It reminds me of a story by Mark Twain. It's about the gentleman coming home late one night after celebrating at his club. He gets to the porch of his house, waits 'till the front steps swirl around near him and makes a lunge at 'em. Scrambles up the steps of the porch and collects himself in front of the front door. He gathers all his wits together in a bunch and waits for the door to swing his way again. When it does he lowers his head, shoves off, and makes it inside to the bottom of the stairways leading to his bedroom. He gets about 3 steps up when the house bucks on him and down he goes. He fetches himself up at the bottom, graps the knule post, and exclaims "Lord have mercy on all the sailors out at sea on a night like this!". The wild man introduces me to an incredible babe sitting at the bar. Thin. Hyper. Intense dark eyes that peer into your soul. Killer body. Especially the ass. Looks like she's been on a roll for 2 or 3 days. She's with another senorita. The wild guy tells me he told her I had LSD. She's in love with me and wants to party! He suggests the four of us go to his hotel at the corner of the alley and Constitucion. (The crack hotel). I decline but make a note to check her out later when I'm alone. I'm getting a little nervous. This guy is definitely "once step over the line, sweet Jesus". I switch to small talk, conversation. He's living in Tijuana and works in San Diego. I ask him about the commute. Small talk. What kind of work do you do in San Diego. He looks at me with a big grin. The eyes rolling up, then down, then all around and back again, RISA! RISA! RISA! (Very loud laughter). Regards,
