I think the author of the figure I quoted above may have been accidently (or foolishly) referring to the total number of legal border crossings between MX and the USA. Compare the two statements below, both found with an internet search - the first quote is the original: "The Tijuana-San Diego border crossing, for example, is now the busiest in the world, with an estimated 250 million crossings each year."
"More people cross the U.S.-Mexico border than any other border in the world. There are over 250 million legal border crossings from Mexico into the United States each year. In addition, there were over one million undocumented Mexican migrants apprehended attempting to enter the United States illegally last year." And finally, more crossing quotes from various sources on the internet: "The city of Tijuana at the northern end of Mexico's Baja California peninsula is the most visited border crossing in the world. It is Mexico's fourth largest city and each year, 30 million people pass through the rusting metal turnstiles from southern California." "The San Diego-Tijuana border crossing is the busiest in the world. In 1997, 56 million people and nearly 1 million trucks crossed into San Diego from Mexico (the southbound traffic is not counted)."
I know from personal experience that they ain't movin' 8 people a second through those USA re-entry turnstiles...especially on weekends. KRICO
