I have been there a handful of times and each time was pretty much dragged kicking and screaming by a bored, drunken amigo who will remain nameless but whose name rhymes with NO MAS! The clubs are alright on Friday nights (never been on a weeknight), but I'd say the chica quality runs much closer to Miami/Las Chavelas caliber and invoking the name Tropical borders on BLASPHEMY. Titanic is a sight to behold -- about 1/3 bigger than the new expanded Miami Kong with almost exactly the same decor/layout. Nachos and the Caves are merely a'ight. They all have intermittent floorshows. If you go, and if the Zona gets too old hat for you maybe you SHOULD, go with low expectations and see what happens. I wouldn't worry too much about safety unless you are generally a big pussy anyway. BTW, there are numerous collective cabs that will take you to back to Centro -- ~3rd and Constitucion for 5 pesos when you decide to come back 'home'.
