Explorer, about every four months someone asks, "What about these bars I heard about in LaMesa? Why hasn't there been any discussion of them?" The collective board memory seems to be about five minutes, so maybe I should not be surprised that this "new" topic is being recycled yet again. Since you have offered serious posts in the past, I'll try to give you a quick rundown, keeping in mind that it's only my two cents' worth. LaMesa, like the ZN, is a tolerance zone for prostitution. That's about where the similarity ends. LaMesa is an expensive cab ride from the border (I've been charged $15, although it can be reached more cheaply by cabbing to Revolucion and taking a de ruta cab for about 75 cents). The area itself is geographically small, dominated by three main bars: Bar Titanic, Nachos, and La Cueva de Peluda. Each bar has its own distinct flavor to it. Bar Titanic seems to attract a large FAC crowd of workers and professionals. They have younger, quite attractive dancers, and the stainless steel decor is unique (some of the wall decor is on a slant to give the impression that the "boat" is sinking). I've never had a session with a Le Mesa chica, but I've spent considerable time there. I have been told by a Titanic lady that some of the ladies go next door to the Hotel Francia, while others get their money solely from dance tips and drink fichas. (As if to confirm Porker's axiom that there are no virgins in TJ, she told me she does go upstairs when she needs money for the rent, but, alas, she didn't need money for the rent that day). Nachos is a kind of locals hangout with a combination of very Mexican music and variety acts, though nothing as elaborate as the New York club. The ladies there are very, hmmmm, well, Mexican in their looks. Older, chubbier, the kind you'd like to drink beer with while watching Monday Night Football and arm wrestle for quarters, but not necessarily to go home with. I assume some of them are catchable but frankly never tried, although one did give me her phone number and they love for you to buy them drinks. La Cueva is somewhere between the two other bars. Big dance floor, occasional strippers, sometimes other variety acts like a Ranchera singer, with a huge range in the quality of ladies. Met a former dancer from Bolero there who was gorgeous, but there are also the Roseanne Barr types as well. I was told by a chica that the ladies at La Cueva that screw use a hotel across the street. She showed me the hotel, but I can't recall the name. Kind of like the setup between Mexico Lindo and Hotel Leon. There are a couple of other bars in the vicinity, but they don't appear to be hooker bars, just watering holes for locals to get plastered. I have been told, and have observed as well, that late at night the area becomes very unsavory. The locals get very drunk and then belligerant, taxis are hard to come by and you have to wait on deserted street corners for long periods of time for them. In the clubs, the reception for gringos varies. I have found chicas who are interested and intrigued by finding a gringo there, while at other times, I get the feeling that everyone is wondering, "what the hell is that gringo doing here?" Maybe just my imagination, but there's no question that gringos stand out like a sore thumb in this area, unlike the ZN. I made a number of forays to LaMesa about a year ago, trying to re-charge my TJ batteries, which had become dulled by the same old same old in the ZN. I finally stopped going to LaMesa because of a number of factors. The distance and cost are only justified if the payoff is pretty high. IMO, it isn't. The selection, variety, and quality of ladies there is fairly limited and, unlike the ZN where you can then troll for SGs or visit the Revo clubs, if you can't find someone you want in the three clubs, you're basically SOL. Also, you do have to speak Spanish pretty much 100% of the time there. You're unlikely to find many chicas who even speak a little English. Finally, my sense is that it's at least as dangerous as the ZN, if not more so. And I've never seen a cop in La Mesa, whereas I see them all the time in the ZN (whether they'll do anything when you get mugged is another matter). So, to sum up, the reason why you haven't seen anything about LaMesa is simply that you get more bang for your buck in the ZN. Believe me, if La Mesa were some newly discovered goldmine for chicas, guys would be posting about it. The fact that they don't bother should be an indication of something. If you're curious, why don't you visit there. You have nothing to lose but an evening and some money. But I suspect you'll discover the same thing I did. There's no place like the ZN. Again, just my two cents' worth.
