No, there are NO real good studies about this, because: (1) everybody lies, especially about sex and drugs, and (2) no one can really control anything to do a study like this, and (3) even if they could do a prospective study, it would probably be unethical.

Less data is available about Mexico than many other places. People lie. Doctors don't report, because it is assumed that all new HIV cases are gay (truely a sin in a macho country like Mexico).

Countries, particularly in Africa, where the HIV population is very large, show numbers of men and women infected far in excess of any possible number of IV drug users or transfusion recipients.

The truth is no one really understands why men get HIV, but for many who test positive, their ONLY risk factor (that they will admit to) is heterosexual sex. How easy is it to catch...I don't want to find out.
