Here's UCB virologist Peter Duesberg's opinion: There is a virus-type, and researchers have given it a name "HIV" (Human Immunodeficiency Virus),.. What remains to be seen is if this particular virus actually causes the syndrome of diseases known as AIDS. Duesberg says, "No...".

Other researchers have agreed with his opinion ( some having arrived at it independently).
Duesberg has his own website which can be found by using a search engine and punching in the words "Duesberg AIDS"...or whatever combination of AIDS "code words" one wishes to use...
Or read his book "Inventing the AIDS Virus" (you'll never view "authority" or "science" in quite the same light again...)

Regardless of whether or not one agrees with Duesberg, as Strike Eagle points out, there are certainly other STD's for which the risk of "catching" them can be significantly reduced by using condoms during sex.
