Hippie: $5 for me, too, at all times, the key is to firmly establish the price beforehand ("cinco dolares para la frontera?") and then be prepared to walk on by, so to speak, if you don't get the response you are looking for...nine times out of ten the cabbies will call you back to the car at the aforementioned price...
