You can try and talk them into it but I believe they try to remain strict to their particular criteria. Where you decide to cut off who is at greater risk and who is at less risk can of course be somewhat arbritary but I think they try to include those groups that will likely yield the highest percentage of positive tests. IIRC, all the hepatitis testing and vaccines at the County STD clinics are paid by outside grant funds, so careful budgeting of those funds is clearly a priority. When the money runs out, no one gets anything anymore. As far as outside costs, I'm not sure. My educated guesses: Serology for hepatitis B and C have gotten quite inexpensive, maybe 20 bucks a piece. That is the lab cost. The doctor/clinic may pad that of course. Might be best to call a couple of places and price them. Hep B vaccine is a bit more expensive maybe 50 to 60 bucks per shot so you're talking 150-200 for the 3 shot series. Again the range clearly relates to MD markup. I think hep A vaccine is about the same cost or a little more expensive than B but it is a two shot series so I would guess about 100-120 for the series. this private clinic price stuff I just kind of pulled out of my anus, but one other colleague thought it looked reasonable. |
