During the last year and a half, I have expended a considerable effort learning Spanish. I would say I’m about half way to some degree of fluency. That’s what I thought a year ago too. In the mean time I am increasingly conversational. My initial motivation was (take a wild guess) improved sessions with the chicas. Lakers once jokingly said to me, “Learning Spanish is a dumb thing to do. You begin understanding the chicas and after that you want to do something about what’s bothering them”. Despite his constant cast of admirers the man from time to time makes crystal sense. I have often thought that anybody that could piss off that many people was worth listening to. I was a big fan of Lenny Bruce when I was younger. I have gotten a little closer to a couple of the girls over the last year. I have found out a little about where they are from, how they got here, and what they think. Being a prostitute in ZN is a rough life. I’m not coping a sympathy plea for anybody. I didn’t bring any of the girls here and I’m not making any of them stay. What amazes me is the grace that a few of them face life with. They are certainly not all angels and I wouldn’t trust 90% of them alone with my car keys. Most know how to work a guy with a sympathy story and they have it down to an art form. There were a couple I met though that opened some perceptions about facing life on life’s terms without expecting anything other than a right to some personal dignity. Primarily they work to afford their children better opportunities than they had. There is no stereo-typing the chicas. They are as different as we are. Almost all of the guys I know from this and other boards treat the girls reasonably well. But sometimes when I am in a club I see guys getting a little rough with one of the girls. Stuff like grabbing her tit, when she doesn’t want any part of it. Talking down to her because she lacks education or doesn’t understand your language. Making her uncomfortable about what kind of drunken asshole she has to handle tonight. Refusing to back off when she is trying to say she is uncomfortable with your shit. If you are new to TJ and ZN, I would like to offer one piece of unsolicited advice for the coming year. Treat the girls like real people. Most of them are pretty decent people. A few humble me for my arrogance and pride. Que vayan con Dios las chicas. La noche está larga. Feliz Navidad, |
