Count me in too with Sire Enigma, assuming I'm still practicing the craft a year from now. ;-) Your story is quite humorous, but doesn't surprise me in the least. As a group, the chicas are a mighty fine group of people. There can be no parallels drawn between them and their counterparts in the U.S. These girls are in the business because cultural, economic, and personal circumstances have converged to make it the best opportunity for them that they can take advantage of. I think your story is quite more the norm of the chicas than the exception. I am no longer amazed at stories of chica goodwill, because it is so normal. Now I have to say, I had the orphanage gift idea back in september/october, and I dropped the ball. I was actually going to open it up to contributions from other practitioners. I just got hung up with work, etc. and I never got down there to identify a likely looking orphanage. My plan was to visit the tourist kiosk and inquire, as I had been advised on the redsnake board by others last year. I think mongers have done this in the past. One monger even offered the use of his pickup truck and chauffer services to bring the gifts down. But the time to set it up is Nov.-early Dec. There are plenty that are ready and willing. What is needed is someone to take the initiative and get it off the ground. Your plan should allow for many anonymous contributions from those like me who prefer a low zona profile. Every year I also note with amusement when the motorcycle dudes ride into TJ in full regalia loaded with gifts to distribute. It's gotten big enough that I think they now do it on Rev. now, with full police protection and crowd control. Years back they started by visiting the neighborhoods directly.
