"antes" (before) "despues" (after) One of the definitions of a friend that I've always liked since I first heard it is "someone who lets you backstage". We all present a persona to the world and strut and fret our time upon the stage. However with friends we drop the act and invite them backstage. I once worked with a European guy who was training for the Biathion event in the Olympics. The biathion is a composite athletic contest consisting of cross-country skiing and rifle precision shooting. The transition is the key to success. He focused on the transition from the adrelin-pumped, hell-bent for leather, optimized for speed, skiing to the quiet, careful, focused, controlled breathing required for precision shooting. He spent hours visualizing and practicing the transition that occured between the time when he laid down the ski poles and when he picked up the rifle. He was practicing the discipline of changing his own internal state from one attitude to another. One of the little gifts I gave her was a box of 6 candles. She was pleased and told me how she uses them to make the transition from being a busy, single working mother to a seductive woman of the night. It starts with "el espejo" (the mirror). She puts on soft music and lights the candles around the mirror. She then puts on makeup that makes her look her best in the soft light. Looking at souvenir trophies from past conquests increases her confidence. As she looks at herself in the mirror, she thinks about the correct attitude for a successful "black magic woman". Her ritual involves changing both her exterior appearance and her internal attitude. The transition is the key to success. Regards, |
