The following is a resource which might be helpful to those who wish to donate time or gifts to one of the 15 orphanages in Tijuana: Fundacion para la Proteccion ede la Ninez runs a program called Club Caritas del Sol, which organizes and celebrates birthdays and other holidays in orphanages around the city. The program is coordinated by social workers, but carried out by a large number of volunteers, who dress up as clowns, decorate, and play party games with children on their birthdays. The Foundacion also collects and distributes donated products. This is only one of its 4 major programs for support and assistance to organizations that work with low-income children (it also runs an art therapy program, a child abuse prevention program, and provides social workers to understaffed programs).
