Studies show that you are actually slightly more alert, and a safer driver, after consuming 1-2 drinks(BACs between .01 and .03). The jury is still out on BACs between .04-.06; however, after 3-4 drinks, your ability to operate a motor vehicle safely definately begins to drop off exponentially. The chance of getting in a fatal accident goes up by a factor of 4 at .10 BAC, by a factor of about 50 at .15 BAC, and by 400 at BACs above .20. What you should really be concentrating on are the drunk drivers with high BACs. Unfortunately, those are the same people that will NOT respond to any kinds of "treatment", or license revocations; and WILL continue to drive until they kill or injure someone. The only thing these assholes respond to is a stiff prison sentence - simply because it keeps them out of the bars, and keeps them from driving. The fact is, if you really ARE for safer highways, we should all take a shot before getting behind the wheel, right? The problem occurs when do-gooders try to lump all drinking drivers under one tent. The government gladly obliges them, as they get easy convictions, and rake in the revenues from saps with BACs as low as .06 - who are in all liklihood NOT driving unsafely, but simply got railroaded by a system out of control. It is fucking asinine that we treat someone driving with a BAC of .08 the same as someone with a BAC of .22. Totally asinine. Like I said... DON'T GIVE THE DO-GOODERS A CHANCE - keep a breathalyzer in your car, and don't drive with a BAC above .03. Let these do-gooder assholes eat the bumpers of the fuckers driving with BACs above .15. Maybe one day they will pull their heads out of their asses - or will they simply try to continue to reduce the legal BAC levels, or re-instate the constitutional amendment that prohibits ALL alchohol use???... BUTTWIPES!
