This is one of my standard daytime walking routes. I have not had any problems, although I agree it is not a "good" route. But I think if you're committed to walking, there isn't really a way to get to the zona without walking through some shitty areas. I walk like you say, with senses alert, and conveying that if you're going to take something off me, it won't be easy. I look fast, and alert enough that I doubt any muggers would bother with what promised to be a significant effort for a dubious prize. So far, no one has screwed with me. It also helps to look a little pissed off. But I emphasize I never walk at night. The biggest hazard I note, are gapping holes in the sidewalks, especially between Rev. and Const. If your foot should slip in one of those, you will surely break your bones in 10 places. So keep your eyes up, keep your eyes down. The thing is, it's only that one area on Coahuila between Rev. and Const. that's kinda smelly and ugly. It's only about one block. Sometimes, if I feel like I need some adrenaline, I go straight on 123 to Const. You gotta admit, the street is full of activity, and lined with pretty girls. The city is radically different than San Diego and has its own unique charm. I love Tijuana. And it always reminds me of my early days of exploring the city during a sunny springtime.
