What are you trying to do, Hippie? Impress the ladies by giving them your beat-up old furniture? But seriously - what I do is go thru the "Para Declarar" line with a beat-to-shit old pickup truck, and when the inspector comes up and asks what I have to declare, I say "Solamente una sofa vieja". They just take one look at the truck, and basically tell me to get the hell out of here. I don't know about appliances - but if you just have one, and it is pretty filthy-looking, they will probably just let you thru with that too(Solamente una estufa vieja). If you try to bring across a whole bunch of shit at once, then you are asking for trouble. BTW - Do NOT try to bring in whole computers. I've had to go back thru that sliding gate thing when I wouldn't give one up to them. To bring across a computer, break it down into pieces that would not be useful to them separately. For instance, take out the power supply. Definately bring the monitor and keyboard/mouse separately. It usually takes about 4-5 trips to bring the whole computer across!
