Who actually wrote FUCK YOU all over one of their walls, and decided to be a little cautious as to who they rent to! Of course it seems that it's always MY ROOM that ends up getting trashed. Your trick with the deodorant pales in comparison, though, to the big drunken guero playing Nolan Ryan with full Dos Equis cans against the bano door. Ah, those pesky gaping holes in the door... Gracias a dios that they don't check the room before refunding the key deposit like they do at Hotel Leyva (where the deposit is only two bucks -- big deterrent to likely hotel trashers, huh!) Seriously, If you are having a tough time getting a room at Cascadas, it may be worth it to try the other recepcion desk. They SHOULD radio over there and check it for you, but if you really wanna know for sure you can always check yourself. For the people presuming they can get a reservacion in advance at Cascadas, I wouldn't bet on their reliability if you're planning a late arrival. Hotel Leyva, however, DOES do a good job with reservations, but be sure to get them to tell you the room number of the room you are reserving and they will likely ask what time you will be arriving. The point I am making is that one place has a professional staff and the other gives it the 'old Mexican try' (we'll do it to the degree we feel like at the moment), plus there will be half a dozen other guys working there in the meantime that can screw things up. One of my favorite run ins with the clusterfuck that is the front desk at Cascadas is when 4 jizz cleaners with walkie talkies roused me from a deep sleep at ~ 7 AM insisting that my room was supposed to be empty and intimating that I had snuck in without paying (something I'd do in a HEARTBEAT if I thought I could actually get away with it!). Luckily I had kept my receipt and actually found it in my somnambulatory state, throwing it at them and telling them to FUCK OFF AND LET ME SLEEP. What had happened? Obviously a screw up in recording the info in their 'hi-tech' record keeping system, which is basically any one of 6-8 hombres writing cryptically in 2-4 different notebooks where each has their own system that none of the other guys can understand. Last week I trudged up the stairs, put my key in the door to find some dude wondering 'what the fuck are you doing entering my room?' After a 10 minute powwow with the Cascadas brain trust they made the guy who was in MY room move to his actual room that was across the hall. I guess the jizz cleaner with the key decided that 630 is mas o menos el mismo as 631 when he let the guy in the room earlier that evening. Of course giving me HIS room wasn't an option because they would have had to get me a new receipt and find the key to the room and everything... big hassle. Also, it woulda completely confused the chicas that were using their telemarketing skills by cold calling and offering their services. They vary their sales pitches depending on their target market. One girl was quite disappointed one evening when she had to deal with me instead of the 'chino' she thought she was calling. If you are ever really stuck getting a room in TJ, many hotels that are used for short time rooms will let one of these rooms go for all night after 5 AM. 3 AM can have full occupancy and @ 5:30 5 hotels will have a dozen+ rooms each. You might wanna ask for a clean sheet and blanket, though! The hotels I have done this at are Rizo de Oro (Tropical hotel) and Hotel Manhattan, and I know that Cacadas does this too. I have still not tried the hotel atop La Tropa, but I'm pretty sure it is similar to a Cascadas hrrrroom and costs the same. Don't think they have any jacuzzi rooms though!
