I don't even do that in U.S. bars. There are people who slip things in other people's drinks. I ALWAYS take the drink with me, or abandon it. Once in a U.S. club a real nice, friendly guy comes up to me with an open beer bottle, explains he works for X beer company, and this one is complimentary. I took it, thanked him graciously, and when he had turned his back, put it on the bar and went about my business. I don't know what was in it, but I'm sure something was.
