The most common way to remove the warts is to freeze them with Liquid Nitrogen. (serious frostbite!). This is supposed to kill all the way down to the deeper layers of the skin where there may still be some virus. It is difficult to know how much to freeze, and nobody wants to create permanent damage (ie an ulcer on the penis) from too much freezing.

Unfortunately, sometimes all the virus does not get destroyed. The wart may grow back. That is probably the best test...if the wart is growing back, there is probably still viable virus. Meaning it is still contageous, and can be transmitted to another person.

There is a cream called ALDARA, available by prescription, that is supposed to "increase the immune system", to kill warts. I'm skeptical, though I have prescribed it. Is the virus gone, or just "in check by the immune system"? Is it still transmissible to another person? I generally recommend it in combination with Liquid Nitrogen, though it is not FDA approved for that particular way of using it.

Best advice: Get West Fargo's Flashlight and learn how to use it.
