A tourist permit is only good for 6 months. They will normally want to see a long-term residence permit. This would be a minimum of a FM3, which give you the right to live in Mexico. There is a new staff of immigration officers at the boarder right now and they are a lot better than the old crew. You should not have a lot of problems with this if you have something that says you have the right to be a resident of Mexico. The only real problem you will have is if you ever want to come back to the states. Keep the paperwork and the letter that list the items you are taking into Mexico just in case you decide to bring it all back one day.
