and she knew I worked with computers. She wanted me to give her a copy of a review of one of the superstars. I asked her why? She said she wanted to know what the secret of her popularity is. I, of course, didn't "understand" what she was talking about.

I spent some time with a prodigy of the BBBJ Queen (what great fun as she haltingly tried out her new knowledge), and she made me swear not to tell any of the other girls.

As BOT said in his classic, the girls are competing hard for your money. Some of the more sophisticated ladies are very protective about their "competitive advantage". They're more worried about their competitors reading the information than they are about us. That's why a girl will get upset about a good review. You're giving away her "trade secrets". We come and go but their competitors are there every week. And they're playing for hard cash, not just some sports trophy. A review, especially a good one, is like the opportunity to read the playbook for the opposing team.

Thinking about it a little deeper, I think the metaphor of opposing teams is probably more useful in understanding much of the ladies behavior than "novio/novia" in most cases. This is their territory and it's their game. Females have been playing it for millions of years. We're simply the "catch" or "prize" that goes to the winner.

In most cases it's probably wisest to not take it personally and at the same time keep your eyes open for that 1 in a 100.
