The discussion below about Molino Rojo being turned into a parking lot prompted Matiz to ruminate as to where a guy can go to [paraphrasing] grab a cheap thrill with a sorry skank for a buck. Well of course there is always Isis and Unicornio. But lately anyway, the talent I've encountered has just been too sorry...below the lowest standard I've observed in a handful of MR adventures. To be fair, I'm more specifically referring to Isis - I've managed to occasionally find the legendary "diamond in the rough" at Unicornio (where have you gone Laura "the Cat"?). But having a beer at Isis on a weekday afternoon is something I wouldn't submit to again were I on my first day of freedom following a 25 year prison term and the PAN party had succeeded in closing every bar in TJ except Isis. I enter with the lowest expectations - ready, willing and able to make substantial compromises to sample a taste of perverse back booth boogie - yet I still manage to exit disgusted. What are the operators trying to accomplish? The level of business in these clubs ranges from non-existent to negligable, yet they continue to operate year after year without any new twists. Why is it seemingly impossible for them to share in the talent pool that stocks even Bambi, Sans Souci, and Mike's Disco with a certain number of desirable WOMEN (in addition to the transwhatevers)? The facilities are fine...Isis is halfway nice. Are these bars the Mexican version of a tax shelter? Launderers of cartel money? Sociological laboratories for a Mexican University studying the depths of male sexual desperation? Installations of the municipal government to misrepresent the city's riches and persuade clueless newbies landing on Revolucion that TJ is NOT a choice outlet for finding the putas of their dreams? Any of you wired veterans have a clue on what motivates these jointly owned businesses to stalwartly present a carnival sideshow to an empty room?
