For any of the mongers who are not futbol fans, a heads up is in order for Wednesday nite.

In case you don't know the U.S. plays Mexico in World Cup Qualifying. This is the biggest game of the year to this point for both teams. The U.S. has handily beat "El Tricolores" the last two meetings. They were only "friendlies" and both teams played without their best players, but it has shown that the U.S. is more than capable of beating Mexico.

Although Mexican fans are exuberant, they have not developed a reputation as hooligans a la Dutch or English soccer fans. They can be rabid though, and the thought of their team being beaten by the gringos is more than enough to set them off. I was in Nogales about 2 months ago when the U.S. beat Mexico. I was at Cherries and the strip club was empty but the Sports bar upstairs had around 25-30 fans. They were not happy campers after the loss, and after I saw one or two fights I decided to head back across the border for a couple of hours for the hotheads to cool off. And remember this was an inconsequential match (but in front of 65,000 mostly Mexican fans at the L.a. Coliseum.

I would keep a lowprofile that night no matter who wins. There will be people looking for trouble either way.

Personaly, I believe the U.S. will win by at least 2 goals.

Be Careful

O
