On a recent Friday I toured a few of the smaller bars around La Zona, something I haven't done in about three years. Back then it was normal to stop into half a dozen or more such places just to check them out. One was El Pollo Bar. It was interesting, to say the least. Some random observations: At midnight on a Friday night Tecates were two for 30 pesos, and water (NOT Agua Mineral, but just a plain old glass of water - not even a bottle!) was 45 pesos EACH. If it's at all crowded you are forced to sit on these little stools, about half the size of a normal bar stool. Not for long, I didn't! They had a stage show going all the time we were there, and all the chicas we saw ended up completely nude! None were especially great dancers, but it surprised me that they all went nude. And one was pretty cute. (But Y-O-U-N-G. See below.) The women here dress much more like typical U.S. strippers do. Almost all at least showed their panties under very short dresses. A couple were wearing lingerie. The girls here looked really young. Some couldn't have been more than 15 or 16. Some looked even younger. Can you say Y-O-U-N-G? Too young for this old guy. There were a fair number of young guys in the crowd, as well. Many dressed rather stylishly. (In my day we called it "hip"). The waiters all wore dress shirts and slacks. Trying for an upper class look, I guess. (Maybe that's why they can charge so much for a glass of water.) There were several girls sitting with guys in the booths along the wall. A couple of those girls gave good enough shows that I was ready to tip THEM as well as the dancer on stage. They were clearly having fun, and were either loco, or in a state of altered consciousness. All in all, it looks like a fun club, especially for the younger crowd, and only, I suspect, if you are willing to invest some time into becoming known there.
