It may not be as much instinctual saavy, as political wisdom. The differences in Mexican parties are probably as big as the differences in the US parties (Democratic{Closer to PRI/PRD}, and Republican{closer to PAN}). The Mexican equivalant of the Republican party is in office now, where, the right wing resides.
