I drive into Mexico a number of times each week. I take everything you can imagine over. I have been stopped only twice. One time they looked in my suitcase and saw all my cloths and my girls' cloths (we were on our way out for vacation). When they asked me where I was going I told them on a two-week vacation and that was it, they let me go on through. My suggestion is, if you are going to walk across just take a bag of some sort. Do not take a suitcase. Do not press the buzzer unless they ask you to. If they feel they want to inspect what you have they will ask you. Next plan your crossing between 5 and 7 that is the time most of the people who live in TJ are exiting the trolley and the crossing is very busy. Most of these people will have more than what you are planning to take over. As mentioned the bus is also a good option for this. If stopped do not declare a value. Just tell them you took them to the states for cleaning and are bringing them back to your girlfriend. They will usually not give you much grief over this. Good luck.
