In Reply to: The embargo against Cuba.... posted by Curious on March 12, 2001 at 10:45:01:
Curious. I believe it is the department of the treasury that approves all travels to Cuba. They are also in charge of all issues pretaining to the embargo. Also if you would like to travel to Cuba from the US here is the place to start: http://uscuba.home.igc.org/ It is not an easy task to get papers to legally travel to Cuba. The best way to do it is leave out of a city in Mexico (besides TJ) on a direct flight. When you reach Cuba, they will ask you what your citizenship is. At this time, tell them you are an U.S. Citizen and they will send you to a tourist information desk and issue you a temporary visa/passport that they will stamp. Note: DO NOT LET THEM STAMP YOUR U.S. PASSPORT. Although they normally will not accidents happen. While you in Cuba, you will need to have your U.S. passport and this document with you at all times. If the U.S. (department of the treasury) knows that you plan to visit Cuba and you have submitted an application for approval, you can be caught when trying to reenter the U.S. All applications are logged in the INS database. If INS decided to do a check on you upon return, this will show. They will than ask for proof that you were in another location (reason one for flying to another city in Mexico than leaving for Cuba). |
