Mexican epidemiological literature suggests that street workers have higher STD rates than workers from other sites. Here are my questions though... 1) If thats true, is it their work practices or non-working practices that put them at risk? and 2) Are these "real" (i.e. bounded, static) categories (street girls vs. club girls)? I've heard some women work in the street and in clubs, and out of their homes for that matter, depending on their needs for that day/week/etc. If there are real, and not just assumed, differences in their practices, what are those differences, and how much mobility is there in terms of switching from one site to another. Anyone know someone who was once a street girl who now works in a club?
