Cityog: Getting instant messages from wives

I gather that it doesn't take a password to read messages on the Threaded board, so wives of mongers could read messages here.

But, how does such a wife send an instant message to anyone who posts on the Threaded BBS? After all, the only place where E-mail addresses are visible is on the Discuss BBS, which *is* password protected.

So, if cityog were to receive an IM from a monger's wife, either:

1) she had his email address in the first place;
2) Wives are hacking the site;
3) Mongers are giving out email addresses of other mongers to their wives;
4) Something else entirely.
