You left out the key point of the episode. TO SERVE MAN was the title of the book they were using that a scientist got hold of. We were able to decipher the title much quicker than the text because it was in the aliens' equivalent of capital letters, as opposed to the text, which was a diferent script. They realized it was a cookbook just as the lead scientist boarded a ship for their planet. This is one of the most famous of all Twilight Zone episodes. And yes, I realize that this post just cemented my geek status, as if there was any doubt.
