My objective is to understand Zona Norte in its political economic and historical context. The sex industry is just that - an industry. This research is not about morality or crusading. It seems to me that Zona Norte, as a particular geographic area which appears to cater to US tourist tastes, is different when compared to other geographically bounded areas of the sex industry in Tijuana (La Mesa, La Presa, etc.). Other areas in Tijuana cater more extensively to local Mexican businessmen, Asian and Arabic businessmen, etc. which are tied to other facets of the economy in Tijuana (maquilas, etc.) I'm trying to "see the forest through the trees" so to speak.
