I wish there were an all purpose phonetical pronunciation guide...every dictionary I have seems to have it's own set of symbols to indicate a particular sound. To me "ay" has a long "A" sound to it as in "ray, bay, hay" in English...whereas "eh" would be more like a short "E" sound that comes out in "bet, met, let"...to me. And when I speak Spanish it's obvious to native speakers that I have an accent ( they usually assume I'm an Italian speaking Spanish, or a Russian speaking Spanish - apparently they are used to Spanish-speaking Russian sailors down in Vera Cruz, or so one chica told me. ) I would pronounce the Spanish word for "darling" , "querida" as "Kay-ree-dah" using the formula listed above, slightly trilling the "R". I would pronounce "Tengo" as "tayn-go" but this one is tougher because of the way the "ENG" combo go together...I would have more of a TEN-DENcy to pronounce the word like "Ten-go" like the number 10...even though this is probably not right. Oigame... No se lo que decir! Soy gringo...y que se yo? Que Rico |
