Typically, I stay at a more "luxurious" place, but rent out a room in the Hotel Coahuila, just 'cause it made economic sense...or it used to.
I just got back from a chow call at my corner Mexican restaurant and the owner is a Mexican National who frequents Las Chavalas (he's got way more frequent flyer miles from Southwest than I...). I told him about the rate increase at Hotel Coahuila and he blamed it on Fox. I assume he was joking...

There must be more to this than meets the eye, though. I've walked through Cascadas and although it's well appointed, it's a ghost town. If anything you'd think that the Hotel Coahuila would be lowering their prices...I know that places like AB have put a ban on "their" chicas using other hotels. Who'd stay at any of those places without the broads?....

Man, it wasn't that long ago that beer was a buck fifty at AB and that Hotel de Oro ( the one that serves the Tropical) was an abandoned, raw concrete blob...
Is this the Mexican version of "gentrification"? Or "Fox-o-nomics" at work? (Similar to Reaganomics with overbuilding of "edificios oficinas"...). Perhaps analogous to the building of the MGM Grande in Reno...opened to a tremendous fanfare...then fell flat and was sold. A lot a people bit the big one...

I predict economic Armageddon....for the Zona. I just hope Tacos Primo and that old guy that owns it can survive....
