Metaphors for existence? Heaven ...Hell. The bipolar opposites of "western civilization"...couple that with the pleasure-pain polarity and you've got a pretty good grip on what makes the underlying mythos of our culture. I have a tough time swearing in Spanish. I've learned maybe 20 curses but some how "Damn it!" is so much more satisfying than "Maldito sea!" Even when we know better, we continue to be heavily influenced by our cultural motifs....I translated "puta madre" into English for a MXer pal of mine. I wrote down two English words "whore mother". He looked at it and just laughed. It seemed absurd to him. KRICO
