Here are a couple of novels that many mongers might relate to: 1. Border Music, by Robert Waller, tells the story of a guy that picks up a stripper in the midwest and she rides with him to Texas. Of course, he falls in love with her. 2. Puerta Vallerta Squeeze, also by Robert Waller, is about a gringo living in PV who makes a run for the U.S. border, along with his novia. Not quite as good as Border Music. Both are in paperback. If you are going to read them, read Border Music first, as there are some minor characters that carry through to PV Squeeze.
