It depends on how sick they are, if they have children, and how poor they are. Because of the way the MX govt. created its budget, only ompoverished women with children qualify for AIDS treatment and care. Anyone else can try to get drugs through PROCABI, though they regularly run out of drugs (they are donated from the U.S.) and have only enough for the very sickest folks out there that can't get anything else. There are a number of hospices in Tijuana and Tecate, I haven't visited them yet but have a friend planning to take me to the one he worked in as a caretaker. Its a pretty dismal scene. They go there to die, and from what I can tell, only about 25% of people with AIDS can get treatment in Tijuana, and is it really even quality treatment like those get in the US? I doubt it, but I'll soon find out. I'll keep looking into it and report back here.
